Alys Torrance trained at Birmingham School of Speech and Drama, Ecole Philippe Gaulier, the Why Not Institute (Angela da Castro), and John Wright
Alys is a fabulously talented and spectacularly skilled improvisation character actress. She is one half of double act Faultless and Torrance, writing and performing new material for Radio and in their recently successful 'Faultless and Torrance Extravaganza'. Following their last Edinburgh project , a stage version of Face/Off, they have written and performed for Radio 4' Bearded Ladies and Radio 1's The Milk Run. Other shows have included The Snag and Flirt Lab. She was a founder member of The Four Horsemen whose shows included Look Mummy! It's War, Famine, Death and Pestilence!, A Swift Half with War, Famine, Death and Pestilence, FHUK and This Is Pop (a sitcom for the BBC). Alys also starred in Dogman by Neil Innes and John Downie, The YarnBards by Leisa Rea and Richard Vranch, Watercolours with Quicksilver theatre and The Trouble With..with Lucy Hind.
TV/Radio credits include Life in London, Bearded Ladies, The Milk Run, Dead Ringers, People Like Us, Manchild, Two Point Four Children & Absolute Power. She wrote for and appeared in Harry Enfield's Yule Log Chums and created two of the characters in Kevin and Perry Go Large. Theatre work includes five years with Pattern 23 Theatre Co., with whom she performed numerous Restoration Comedies and site specific pieces. She has also toured in Shakespeare and TIE in the UK, musicals in Germany, and street theatre in India and Belgium.
Solo work includes Dario Fo's Orgasmo Adulto Escapes From The Zoo and her own Marlene! Live!! Tonite!!!, She has also written numerous sketches, Sweethearts & Bodyparts (a country and western musical) and children's musical The Magic Ring - A Tale of Fame Fortune and Fettuccini, an adaptation of Wuthering Heights as well as writing and performing in cult satirical review Newsrevue.
In addition to performance and writing, Alys works for the National Student Drama Festival, providing workshops in comedy and acting, as part of their outreach and development programme, and during the festival. She was also director of Playbox Theatre's centre in Rugby, and has run workshops for Midland Arts Centre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell, and in schools and colleges around the country.
